Goon Punch Recipes

It’s no secret that I love goon, but truth be told I haven’t always been just the head writer of the (not even arguably) greatest goon website on the internet, I also used to previously part own an Event Hire company with my sister in law, we dealt predominantly in weddings, but also worked many birthday parties, engagements and baby showers.

Mostly dealing in the design and hire side, we were occasionally asked by our clients to cater events, including creating lolly bars and drink stations.

Goon Punch Recipes

When the client’s budget was tight (which especially for weddings normally seemed to be the case) I would ALWAYS recommend serving cask wine – which the client would typically respond by laughing in my face.

But in the end they would ALWAYS go for it and here’s why:

1. It looks fancy as f***

Thanks to drink dispensers that you can pick up from most department stores and cheap shops for around $20, the goon punch looks LITERALLY awesome. It inspires SO MUCH awe, at least from me anyway.

Goon Punch Recipes

You can create scenes to display the punch, such as placing them inside a vintage suitcase or on a nice dressing table, you can use chalk signs to label the punch and finally depending on the flavour of the punch, why not chop up some fruit, vegetable or herbs and throw them in!

2. It tastes great

Yes it does! This is where a bit of creativity comes in. There are MANY great recipes for wine based punch online. I’ve listed our 4 most popular recipes at the bottom of this article.

3. It’s very cheap

How cheap? About $10 per cask which contains 4 litres of wine! Then all you need to do is buy some soft drink, juice, fruit, or whatever you are using in your recipe!

And don’t forget you don’t have to tell anyone what they are drinking (unless you want too).

I hope I’ve sold you on this idea. Goon is very dear to me and I feel like it should be with everyone on their special day – staring on like a proud parent.

4 of our BEST punch recipes (including Goon Sangira, Goon Mojito, the Fruit Tingle Cocktail and Lemon Punch):

*measurements designed for a 7 litre drink dispenser*

Lemon Punch

Lemon Punch

Ingredients:

4L – cask white wine (I prefer to use a dry white)

250ml – lemon juice (measurements to taste)

2L – lemonade

4 – lemons

4 – limes

2 – handfuls of ice

Method:

Pour the 4L cask of wine and the 2L bottle of lemonade into the drink dispenser. Slice the lemons and limes into chunks and squeeze them into the mix, then throw the lemons and limes in. Add a few large squirts of lemon juice and then stir. Taste the punch at this stage; if you prefer a stronger tasting mix, add more lemon juice. Add the ice and you’re ready to go!

Goon Sangria

Goon Sangria

Ingredients:

4L – cask of red wine (I prefer to use a sweet red)

2L – ginger ale

6 – oranges

4 – lemons

4 – apples

1 – handful of mint leaves

2 – handfuls of ice

Method:

Pour the 4L cask of red wine and the 2L bottle of ginger ale into the drink dispenser. Remove the apple cores, slice the apples and throw it into the mix. Slice the lemons and limes into chunks and squeeze them into the mix, then throw the lemons and limes in. Grab a handful of mint leaves and crush them in your hands before throwing them in. Add two handfuls of ice, stir and your goon sangria is ready!

The Fruit Tingle Cocktail

Ingredients:

1.5L – red wine

1.5L – white wine

2L – bottle of Lift

1.25L – bottle of Sprite

200ml – apple and raspberry cordial

2 – handfuls of ice

Method:

Not much of a method here as much as it is pouring everything into the drink dispenser and stirring. Add ice before serving.

Goon Mojito

Goon Mojito

Ingredients:

3L – white wine

3L – soda water

250ml – lime juice (measurements to taste)

1 – handful of mint leaves

6 – limes

Method:

Pour 3L of the white goon of your choice and 3L of soda water. Crush a handful of mint leaves in your hand and drop them into the mix. Slice the limes and squeeze them into the dispenser before dropping them in. Add a few big splashes of lime juice. Taste the punch at this stage; if you prefer a stronger tasting mix, add more lime juice.

So next time you have a (or another) wedding, engagement party, baby shower, birthday party or any other celebration – think about catering it with a cask wine punch. Actually do more than think about it, do it! You cheapskate!

Happy drinking!
